Repurposing While Decluttering

I don’t know about you but I love and live on repurposing items in my home.

Not only does it save you money but it also helps you in decluttering your home as well.

In my home everything is changing on a daily basis, nothing stays the same for too long. Having growing children we are outgrowing clothes, shoes, beds, rooms… the list just seems to go on and on.

So while keeping a house going and running smoothly without clutter and keeping things organized, I have to keep readjusting everyday to how my family is changing and moving.

I guess I have learned a lot about just going with the flow of things whether the flow is like a raging river or just a calm trickle of water, things are always changing.

The one main thing that I have learned while going with the flow, is my passion of repurposing what I already have to fit our lives for that particular time and need.

I don’t know how many ways you can use a wire shelf but I am pretty sure that I have used the same wire shelf in each room of my home for different reasons and in different ways. After all who says that a basket that you used for a fruit basket in the kitchen can’t be used for baby care items in the baby’s room.

I love that sort of thing.

It’s definitely what works for you in that time of need.

I also really enjoy going to thrift stores not only to see what storage or organizing items that will help me in decluttering my home but I you find great deals and great ideas for organizing items in your home.

Wow! It just does not get any better than that. Saving money, getting ideas, and getting your home decluttered and organized all at the same time. I love it.

However keep in mind that we can not and should not hold on to everything we have just because we think that we can repurpose that item.

Here are a few guidelines to help know when it is time to repurpose or get rid of an item.

Throw it out if…

  • it’s broken
  • you won’t actually do the work of repurposing it
  • it doesn’t actually have a way of to repurpose it
  • it’s just in the way

Repurpose if…

  • you already have in mind a way to reuse it
  • it’s clean and in good shape
  • it helps clear clutter and organize an area in your home
  • it is part of the clutter solution instead of part of the clutter problem

If you are needing a little help or need a few items that might help you reuse or repurpose items in your home take a look at a few of these resources to help you get off the ground and get started.
