Got laundry mat blues? Let’s get some organizing clues.

Let’s look at some ideas for organizing laundry mat trips.

Sometimes making that weekly trip to the laundry mat can become a little overwhelming.

First you have the hauling.

If you have ever done your laundry at the laundry mat then you know what I mean.  You haul it into the car, out of the car, into the car, and out of the car again.  So after doing this once a week, it can get a little tiring. So I am going to share with you a few tips on how to make this usually frustrating and time consuming process a little easier.

Before you go:

  • Presort your laundry before you go. (This saves a lot of time and maybe even a little embarrassment at the laundry mat.)
  • Make sure you have laundry soap, bleach, dryer sheets, hangers, and of course lots of quarters or money to get quarters.

While your there:

  • Use the time while the laundry is washing, to set up for folding and hanging, by putting away laundry soap straightening all those tangled hangers, and moving baskets out of the way.
  • After the laundry is dry, folded, and hung up, I suggest sorting the laundry by rooms in your home.  For example put towels in a basket for the bathroom, children’s clothes in separate baskets by their rooms, etc……  This makes putting the laundry away so much easier and if you have your children put their own laundry away all you have to do is give them their basket, bag, or tote to put away. ( I use the big reusable Aldi’s bags because they have handles and can be folded down when your finished with them.)

At home:

  • Having separate baskets for each room leaves you to go from room to room quickly putting sorted laundry away.

This is so easy and fun for children to get involved with. My children would run to the bags of laundry to see which one was theirs so they could go put it away.  Now that’s what I call a great feeling and less work that I had to do.

This is how I often did my laundry and it worked great for me so I hope it works as well for you.

If you have ideas that you would like to share about organizing trips to the laundry mat I would love to hear them.  Or if you have some motivation ideas for others that go to the laundry mat it would be great to hear from you.
